Rob Kelly and Molly
I am trained in disaster victim recovery and I am a qualified ALSAR search technician.
Molly is a four year-old "springador", a labrador/springer spaniel cross. She is primarily a much-loved family pet, gifted to us reluctantly 18 months ago by owners who were unable to give Molly the time that she needed. Molly is an energetic dog who has a very high play drive. I recognised that her drive should be harnessed in a working role of some sort, but didn't want her to be used as a gun dog, and wasn't going to pass her on to Police or Customs. Training Molly as a search and rescue dog meets these needs. We joined the dog team in November 2007. I have been really pleased with Molly's progress in what is a relatively short time. We still have some way to go though before we qualify as a search dog team.
